Rick Grimes Losing A Hand Would Be "Impossible"

If The Walking Dead show continues to try to follow along with the comic book, Rick Grimes could be in for a bit of change this season.

During an interview with Robert Kirkman on Sundance’s The Writer’s Room, the writer of the comic books spilled the beans about something that could be a reality soon:

10.14.11RobertKirkmanByLuigiNovi1[1]“I like the fact that he lost his hand in the comic. To be perfectly honest, the practical difficulties of having a guy who doesn’t have a hand is extremely complicated in the comic and would be impossible in the show. For instance, in a recent issue, I think it’s #122 or 123, Rick is standing on top of a truck. It would take him quite a while to climb on top of a truck with one hand, but we just show him standing on that truck. And you’re reading that comic, and you’re like, ‘There he is on that truck.’ Yeah, but spoiler alert, he loses his hand in Season Five, so…”

We saw Hershel lose his leg in an earlier episode, so a survivor losing a limb wouldn’t be something entirely new.  But the idea of it happening to the main character of the show is something that could be a game changer.  While losing a leg impacts a survivor’s mobility, losing a hand could make a huge change to how someone is used to fighting to stay alive.

Rick underwent a mental transformation in season 4 that will change his character forever.  Now, it seems, Rick could have to prepare for another major change soon.

Do you think Rick Grimes will lose his hand in season 5 or will they deviate from the comics and allow him to keep his hand?
