Say what you will about season 7 of The Walking Dead, but there is one absolute truth about the show: The Walking Dead has one of the most close-knit casts around.

I grew up watching reruns of the original Star Trek television show and I always had a vision in my head of the cast being really close because they worked so well onscreen. When I got older I found out how much tension there was on set, and how there were huge factions within the cast. After learning that, I never saw the cast the same way again.

On the April 2 episode of Talking Dead, we got another look at just how close The Walking Dead cast is. Along with tributes to Sonequa Martin-Green, the cast talked about coming to the set on their off days to watch other cast members filming their scenes.

Norman Reedus shared one such story. He wasn’t filming the day that Andrew Lincoln, Chandler Riggs and Jeffrey Dean Morgan were shooting their intense and pivotal scene in the season finale, but he couldn’t help himself from showing up at Video Village to watch the scene and listen on the headphones. He threw his headphones into the air and ran to tell them how great their performance was.

That same enthusiasm can be seen while the assembled cast members were bidding Sonequa Martin-Green farewell. The outpouring of love and support for their friend and colleague is clear, and it speaks volumes about their connections on and off camera.

Michael Cudlitz said that he is still very close to all of the cast members, which makes perfect sense considering that he sees them regularly during press tours and convention appearances, and that might be the biggest indicator of the love and support this cast has for each other.

When I was a kid in the 1990s, I attended a few Star Trek conventions. You were lucky to get a couple of stars to show up to a convention. It wasn’t something that actors did even though it was great publicity. These days conventions are par for the course, and with Walker Stalker Con you have an opportunity to bring current and former cast members together all year long. It says a lot that you have so many cast members in attendance at these events. Sure, they get paid for it, but no amount of money would be worth it if they didn’t genuinely like each other.

It makes it even more fun to watch The Walking Dead knowing that the cast gets along so well. It’s funny to think that just the day before their appearance on Talking Dead, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Norman Reedus were at Fan Expo Dallas together. They have a close friendship that comes through when they’re together. This is yet another wonderful aspect of the TWD Family.
