2015 Orlando Walker Stalker Con Showcases The Walking Dead
For most people, Orlando is almost synonymous with Mickey Mouse, who is perhaps their best known resident. However, among hard-core fans of The Walking Dead, it’s pretty common knowledge that Orlando will be invaded by the undead in less than two weeks. On June 27th and 28th, the Florida city that’s best known as the home of Disney World will play host to the latest in the series of Walker Stalker conventions, the complete list of which can be found here.
The first of these conventions was held in Atlanta in 2013, and the list of cities hosting them has grown steadily since then, as has the fans’ rabid interest in getting as close as they can to the people who they may or may not want on their side during a real zombie apocalypse. 2015 has seen conventions added in several US cities, with their first international convention already scheduled for London in February 2016. Rumor has it that they are also close to finalizing a contract for a Walker Stalker event in Brazil as well, though nothing has been announced for sure so far.
The Walker Stalker phenomenon has grown and spread like wildfire as more and more fans of the show have enjoyed – and shared on social media – their encounters with the actors and other figures that bring The Walking Dead to life. Those fans who are lucky enough to attend one of these events are usually kind enough to take seemingly unlimited amounts of pictures, then share them liberally across Facebook and Twitter. On Twitter, especially, it’s always easy to tell when it’s a convention weekend, because the pictures of and selfies with the stars of the show start showing up online almost immediately, and continue to fly through cyberspace long after the celebrities have returned to Georgia to continue filming. With
, who is arguably the King of Selfies, on the line-up for the first day of the Orlando convention, there is little doubt that this time will be any different.
At the present time, guests scheduled to appear at the Orlando Walker Stalker convention include current stars Norman Reedus (“Daryl“) and Steven Yuen (“Glenn“), who will both attend only on Saturday only due to Walking Dead filming commitments, as well as Lennie James (“Morgan“), Josh McDermitt (“Eugene“), Michael Cudlitz (“Abraham“), Christian Serratos (“Rosita“), Alanna Masterson (“Tara“) and Sonequa Martin-Green (“Sasha“). Many of the newer cast members, whose characters the audience met towards the end of season five, will also be there, along with a long list of other fan favorite stars, whose characters didn’t make it to the end of season five. Besides just meeting the numerous celebrities, fans will also be able to attend panel discussions, photo ops, get autographs and attend additional performances by past Walking Dead stars Emily Kinney and IronE Singleton. There’s even a separate after party, billing itself as “the largest zombie party in central Florida,” an on-site “total immersion zombie experience,” and a ninety minute special effects demonstration on how to make the living look like the undead.
If you’ve planned to attend one of the Walker Stalker conventions coming up in the next few months, you should know that the VIP tickets do tend to sell out in some venues. Orlando’s Platinum, Gold, 2 Day and Norman Reedus VIP (a special celebrity package) tickets have all sold out already, as have Platinum, Gold and 2 Day VIP tickets to this year’s Atlanta convention, despite the fact that one doesn’t take place until Halloween weekend. There are tickets still to be had for these and others, but if you wait too long, you may end up disappointed.
