Jeremiah and Nick

Just as Troy needed a mother figure, Nick has been lacking a father figure. Travis was never able to connect with Nick in any meaningful way because Travis had a son of his own, and to Nick Travis was always the man who took his father’s place and was competition for Madison’s attention. (We know that Madison sacrificed everything to chase after Nick, but Nick was never able to see it)

Jeremiah has two sons. One, Jake, is self-sufficient like Alicia. He has things figured out. Troy is out of control and with the current state of affairs around the ranch, Jeremiah doesn’t seem to have it in him to reign in his son.

Nick sees Jeremiah’s struggle and he can relate to it in his own way, addict to addict. Jeremiah gave the cabin to Nick along with the gun, and he taught Nick to shoot. Jeremiah’s actions are very paternal, and Nick seems to be responding to the older man’s guidance. He’s learning from him, and he respects what he has to say about the past even though he certainly doesn’t agree with Jeremiah’s ideologies. With Luciana gone, Nick might have been spiraling out of control, but instead he’s taken on Jeremiah, so both men are helping each other.

More from Undead Walking

Though things might change after the midseason finale of Fear the Walking Dead, it’s clear that relationships have developed at Broke Jaw Ranch that might have lasting implications for the group moving forward.
