Danai Gurira and her fellow female Avengers enjoy an epic luncheon while Avengers: Endgame dominates the worldwide box office.

The only question about the success of Avengers: Endgame was how much money it would make. After shattering box office records with a mind-blowing $1.2 billion worldwide box office haul over opening weekend it proved that it’s here to claim the top box office records for years to come. Meanwhile, a photo has been circulating on social media of a luncheon featuring The Walking Dead star Danai Gurira and her fellow female Avengers. What we wouldn’t give to be a fly on the wall!

Sitting around the table on a sunny patio are the women who make the Marvel Cinematic Universe go round. Starting on the left there is Evangeline Lilly (Wasp), Gurira (Okoye), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Leticia Wright (Shuri), Gwyneth Paltrow (Pepper Potts), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Brie Larson (Captain Marvel) and Zoe Saldana (Gamora). Though a few notable faces are missing, like Scarlett Johansson, it was still a gathering for the ages.

Given that many of the women are in makeup it’s clear that this luncheon took place during Endgame filming.

Gurira’s role as Okoye, leader of the Dora Milaje, expanded with the runaway success of Black Panther in 2018. Okoye played an important role in Avengers: Infinity War and as one of the only members of Wakanda leadership to survive Thanos’ snap, Okoye’s role grew in Endgame. It’s no surprise, then, that Gurira is in more demand as preparations for Black Panther’s sequel get underway.

It was tough for the TWD Family to hear that Danai Gurira would be paring down her involvement in The Walking Dead beginning with season 10, but it’s entirely understandable given her growing role in the Marvel Universe along with her own projects. After all, she is a decorated playwright who has been very active of late with her theater projects. She’s also a noted philanthropist, and somewhere in there she needs to find time for herself.

Seeing Gurira with her other “family” reminds us that as Michonne, she is a Queen on The Walking Dead and we have been very fortunate to have had her on the show as long as we have. There’s every reason to hope that her departure from the series will open up a new door with the Rick Grimes movies and that a reunion will happen at some point.

For now, we continue to celebrate Gurira’s success with Endgame and we look forward to her return as Michonne in season 10 of The Walking Dead.
