Rick Kills The Teddy Bear Girl Walker

Season 1 episode 1: “Days Gone Bye”

Renee says:

This scene sets the tone for the whole series. It introduces us to Rick Grimes and shows us a peek into the man that he is.

As Rick walks up to the abandoned gas station with the hopes of finding some fuel he hears something that sounds like feet shuffling and bends down to look under the parked vehicles to see what it is. He sees what appears to be a little girl and as he has been trained to do as an officer, he wants to help her.

When she turns around and he sees that she is a walker the look on his face it pure devastation. I am sure he was thinking of Carl knowing that he would have to put this little girl down. After he hesitantly shoots her, he slowly lowers the gun and the theme music starts to play, you can imagine the thoughts going through his head.

That this is the way the world is now. Things will never be the same again. This scene shows that The Walking Dead isn’t just your ordinary series. This show would push the boundaries and it wouldn’t follow the paths of other shows.

By showing us the real human side of Rick Grimes and allowing us to feel the same pain he does, we can see we will be drawn into the lives of the characters in this series. We can tell from this first scene that this isn’t your ordinary zombie apocalypse series.
