Sasha Makes The Ultimate Sacrifice

Season 7, Episode 16, “The First Day of the Rest of your Life”

Renee says:

For me, Sasha stole this season with her selflessness. She gave herself up for the good of the Alexandria. She knew Negan would use her as a pawn and Rick and crew would do whatever Negan wanted to save her life. Sasha was always a favorite of mine. She was loyal and fierce.

We see Sasha in the coffin listening to an iPod, provided by Eugene. We see her lose consciousness. What wasn’t immediately apparent is that Eugene also gave her the suicide pill which he concocted. We get to view Sasha’s flashbacks which included Abraham and Maggie. In the flashbacks she shared with Abraham that she had a dream of his death. She didn’t want him to accompany Maggie to the Hilltop. But, her true spirit showed through and she told him he needed to go.

Negan was impressed with her. He told no one wanted to see her die. He explained his plan and the part he needed her to play. She negotiated with Negan when he told her that 3 Alexandrians would have to die. She told him she would help him with his plan but no one would have to die. Negan said punishment had to be given. She talked him into only killing one person.

When we saw her in the coffin ingesting the suicide pill my heart broke. I was so touched that she would do this for all of her family in this new world. By dying and turning she created the diversion that saved her family.
