Why Not Connie?

In “Bonds” we saw Carol ask her bestie Daryl if there was a little somethin’ somethin’ going on between him and Connie, and she seemed as surprised as much of the audience when Daryl replied with a seemingly very sincere answer that it wasn’t like that, “not at all”.  When Carol prodded further, trying to ascertain why perpetually single Daryl wasn’t interested in the gorgeous, capable, compassionate Connie, Daryl was most reluctant to give an explanation. So the question remains, if we assume Daryl was being honest, why not Connie?

It is, let’s be honest, one of the most asked questions in the show’s history – where does Daryl’s romantic interest lie?

Is his lack of interest in Connie staring both him and us in the face, in the form of Carol herself? Has Daryl been harbouring a love for his closest friend for all these years (as many shippers believe)? And if so, are we getting closer to that fact coming to the surface? We’ve certainly seen more of their connection, both the light-hearted and the heart-aching, in this season than any other, so it could be that this is a foundation being laid for further revelation.

dark. Next. Are Carol and Ezekiel getting back together?

Of course, it could also be that the scene with Dog in last week’s episode gave us the answer. Perhaps Daryl simply isn’t interested in anyone. Even if he was, perhaps he has seen the cost in pain and total heartbreak the comes with loving someone in their world (from Michonne, and Tara, and Aaron, and Rosita), and he’s decided he really is better off leaving that for everyone else, and sticking to getting his feels by snuggling with Dog. And who could blame him?
