The Walking Dead, Survival Rule Of The Week: Only If You Let It
By Liam O'Leary
5) The Point Of Survival Is To Survive. NEVER Give Up.
Obviously, the crux of this week’s Survival Rule is the notion of letting the things you see, experience, and do in the zombie apocalypse get to you. I could probably go into elaborate detail of all the myriad ways this could happen, but I think the ultimate example of this notion is being so afraid of what’s out there, or so tormented by what you’ve seen and done, that you take your own life.
I can easily see someone being so terrified of the dead, the depravity of the living, the uncertainty of surviving in the apocalypse, or the pain of losing so much in it that a person could see that as an option.
I can imagine someone’s doubt or the things they’ve done after, making them feel like they don’t deserve to live anymore.
You can’t let yourself think that way. That, maybe more than anything else, is something that you can’t let invade your mind. It is the sort of thing that will consume you.
Everything I do here with these rules is, ultimately, for one purpose: To help you survive.
The whole point of trying to survive a zombie apocalypse is to survive, but survival is a choice. You have to want to survive. You have to fight those elements that want to consume you. You can not let yourself give up.
Despair is a demon that wants to convince you to take your life. Never let it in.
And that’s your Walking Dead, Survival Rule Of The Week! There’s going to be lots of awful things in the zombie apocalypse that will try to bring you down from the inside, and, hopefully, you learned that you have the power to stop them.
