Throughout the 11 seasons of The Walking Dead, there have been many notable deaths. With a series set in an apocalypse, it is no surprise that many of these deaths have been gruesome. Many fans agree that the deaths of Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun) and Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) were the most graphic of the entire series.

Glenn Rhee was a mild-mannered pizza delivery boy before the outbreak. He would prove to be invaluable with his quick thinking and resourceful nature. If it wasn’t for Glenn, who knows what the fate of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) would have been? He saves Rick when he gets trapped inside a tank in downtown Atlanta.

He is one character who has great compassion for others and is always willing to put himself in danger for the group’s greater good. He falls in love with Hershel’s (Scott Wilson) daughter Maggie (Lauren Cohan). Sadly his life was cut short, and he never met his son Hershel (Kien Michael Spiller).

What episode does Glenn die in The Walking Dead?

During the season finale of season 6, Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) was introduced, and fans of the comics knew what was coming.

In the comics, Negan used his favorite weapon, Lucille, a barbed wire-wrapped baseball bat named after his wife, who died early in the outbreak, to bash in Glenn’s skull. In the season 6 finale, he chose his victim, but it wouldn’t be revealed until the season 7 premiere, “The Day Will Come When You Won’t,” that Abraham was the chosen one. After Negan bashes Abe’s head, Daryl makes a wrong move prompting Negan to select another victim, Glenn.

If fans were shocked that Abe was chosen as the first victim, seeing Glenn selected as a second was too much. Watching him call out to Maggie with his eye popped out of the socket was quite grotesque, and this scene divided the fandom. Some loved the SFX, gore, and homage to the source material, while others, who loved Glenn, didn’t know how to respond. Maggie’s reaction was heartbreaking as this was the super couple of the ZA.

This death was considered a turning point in how AMC and TWD creators handled the remainder of the series. The fan reaction to this scene appears to have made AMC and TWD creators much more cautious about who died from this point on. Gone were the shocking and surprising deaths of Beth (Emily Kinney), Hershel (Scott Wilson), Sophia (Madison Lintz), and so many more.
