Emmy-winning actor Colman Domingo will return to Fear the Walking Dead this fall for the series’ final six episodes. Domingo has portrayed Victor Strand since season 1 and will conclude this character’s story beginning Oct. 22, 2023, on AMC and AMC+. Vanity Fair reports the first looks at Domingo in a new role, that of Civil Rights activist Bayard Rustin in a new film.

Domingo will star in the biopic Rustin, directed by Tony-winning George C. Wolfe (l Bring in ‘da Noise/Bring in ‘da Funk) and written by Julian Breece and Oscar winner Dustin Lance Black (Milk). Rustin marks the first film production from Michelle and Barack Obama’s Higher Grounds production company for Netflix.

Bayard Rustin was a gay civil rights activist who, as a Black gay man in the 1960s, experienced racism and homophobia. As an activist, he organized the March on Washington on August 28, 1963, where Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his “I Have A Dream” speech. Although rarely mentioned for his efforts, he would go on to pave the way for the early civil rights movement leading several marches and freedom rides. He would later become an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, shedding light on the 80s AIDS crisis until he died in 1987.

Rustin cast

While Domingo has had his share of success with his performances in the musicals Passing Strange and The Scottsboro Boys, for which he earned a Tony nomination, and in Zola and Euphoria, where he won the guest actor, Emmy, Rustin marks his first lead feature role.

He will be joined in the film by an impressive list of talent, including Michael Potts, CCH Pounder, Adrienne Warren, Glynn Turman, Audra McDonald, Jeffrey Wright, and Chris Rock.

Rustin release date – starring Colman Domingo

Rustin will premiere in select theaters on November 3, 2023, and Netflix globally on November 17.
