If you’re like me, you’re going nuts waiting for season 5 of The Walking Dead to come back to AMC.  Time seems to be ticking by so super slowly, but we’ve finally got a little nibble to help us stay sane and up to date on the best zombie themed show on television.  It may not be an actual new episode of The Walking Dead, but we’ll finally get some info on what’s going on.

AMC will be celebrating the 4th of July with something they’re calling “Dead, White and Blue” weekend.  Beginning the night of July 4th at 9 PM EST, AMC will be showing every single episode of The Walking Dead back to back.  If you missed any episodes the first time around or want to watch the shows again to find things you missed, this is a great opportunity.

This will lead up to “”The Talking Dead Season 5 Preview Special” on Sunday, July 6th at 9 PM EST.  That special will feature not only the host of the show Chris Hardwick, but TWD showrunner Scott M. Gimple and comedian Aisha Tyler.

If that doesn’t satisfy your hunger for The Walking Dead, there will also be a couple new documentaries.  They won’t be part of the “Dead, White and Blue” weekend celebration, but still will be focused on The Walking Dead.

The first will be “Inside The Walking Dead” and is set to air on July 8th at 10 PM EST.  If you’ve ever been curious how the walking dead is made, this is a great opportunity to get an inside look at how the show gets from a script to the polished television series that you’ve seen and loved.

The other documentary will air one week after the first (July 15th at 10 PM EST) and is titled “Inside The Walking Dead: Walker University”.  This special will focus on what it takes to make a realistic version of a walker on the show.  That includes tutorials on how the walkers move and the makeup that it takes to give them that repulsive look that is now a mainstay in The Walking Dead’s universe.

Here’s a handy chart to clear up the events following The Walking Dead in July:

  • July 4th at 10 PM EST – Full marathon of every episode begins and runs until July 6th at 9 PM.
  • July 6th at 9 PM EST – The Talking Dead Season 5 Preview Special
  • July 8th at 10 PM EST – “Inside The Walking Dead” documentary
  • July 15 at 10 PM EST – “Inside The Walking Dead: Walker University” documentary.

All these programs will air on AMC and should help fill the gap until October’s season 5 premiere.  I highly recommend you check them out if possible.
