I know I’ve been beating a dead horse with this, but those The Walking Dead games by Telltale Games are fantastic.  Every other month after the release of  a new season, a new episode is release in the series of 5.  Last month, episode 4 of season 2 was released and is titled “Amid The Ruins”.

Here is what I thought of it:

Amid The Ruins was the big episode of the chapter so far.  After the escape from the compound and the loss of Sarita to the group of walkers, the focus changed on getting everyone back to being mentally prepared for walker attacks and the birth of Rebecca’s child.  After finally getting everyone except a zombified Nick back in the group, the focus shifts to getting supplies and preparing for the birth of the baby.

There are many decisions to be made in Amid The Ruins.  You can choose whether to steal from a fellow survivor, save Sarah, and decide between a familiar face or a newly made ally.  All in all, this chapter contains a lot of emotion and intrigue in the development of the characters in the series and sets up what should be a fantastic finale to the series.

The way the episode ended was a surprise.  Personally, I’m really excited to see what happened at the end and what is left to live for in the game.  there is no way to play this episode and not feel any emotions.  There are a lot of situations where life and death are interchanged with birth and fighting for survival.

On a scale of 1-10, I give this episode an 8.5.  While there were a few points where I feel things could have been done differently, overall I felt as though Amid The Ruins did a fantastic job of advancing the story, making us care about the characters, and leaving us with a huge cliffhanger to make players really nervous about what will happen in the final episode of season 2.

Good job, Telltale.  Good job.
