AMC Orders Episodes Of Walking Dead Companion Series
By Adam Carlson
Quite a while ago, it was announced that a companion series to The Walking Dead was in the works. After a couple months passed and nothing was really heard about on that front, we finally got some more information about the walker infested show that will be contained in the same world as The Walking Dead.
The news came down today that AMC, the same television channel that brings us The Walking Dead, has ordered a pilot episode of this companion series. For us that aren’t in the television business, that means that AMC made a business decision to purchase the rights to this episode and decide whether or not they want to purchase a more episodes in the future.
This decision should be a no-brainer. Based on the success of The Walking Dead and the rabid fan base it has, if they can get even half the attention that the original television series has, it will be a huge hit. Introducing new characters and not having a comic book series to follow along also makes this series interesting compared to The Walking Dead’s original TV series.
Here is a quote from AMC President Charlie Collier from an Entertainment Weekly article:
"“Almost from the beginning of The Walking Dead on AMC, fans have been curious about what is going on in the zombie apocalypse in other parts of the world. In fact, beyond requests for zombie cameos, it’s the question I get asked the most. Obviously, we all take our stewardship of the original franchise incredibly seriously and we, along with Robert, Gale, David and now Dave, are all proceeding with extreme care in order to ensure that we are offering fans something truly compelling, engaging and distinct. We’re thrilled to be taking this next step with these remarkable partners.”"
Personally, I love the idea of AMC having two zombie related shows that can help fill the downtime when The Walking Dead is on break. I know I can’t get enough of The Walking Dead and AMC is hoping that there are many other fans like me out there that are excited to see this happen.
