Is Morgan Ready To Join A Group On The Walking Dead?
By Adam Carlson
Since the premiere episode of The Walking Dead’s fifth season, there have been teaser videos of Morgan Jones following the marked paths on the trees. While we weren’t really sure what he was after in the first teaser video after the season 5 premiere, the clip after the credits of the season 5 midseason finale added a bit more clarity to Morgan’s next goal.
After seeing Morgan’s reaction to seeing Rick Grimes’ name on the map he found in Father Gabriel’s church, we now know that he will most likely be following the path that was highlighted on the map, moving toward Washington D.C. in an effort to reconnect with the only person he knows that has a chance of being alive anymore.
In a recent article from The Daily Beast, The Walking Dead’s Showrunner Scott M. Gimple was asked about whether or not Morgan would be able to adjust to living with a group instead of surviving on his own anymore. Here is what he said:
"“I will say this: He was on the road to Terminus. “Sanctuary for all, community for all, etc, etc.” So he was on the road to community, you know? He was on the road to people. I mean obviously, just looking at him and seeing his behavior, it seems like he’s in a much better place. So what we know of Morgan in the past might not be how is in the present. He’s a changed character. What you had said about him, like whether he would ever be in the group or not, we might have known—well, we definitely don’t know. We know that we definitely don’t know the whole story. A little verbal gymnastics there.”"
It sounds as though The Walking Dead is finally ready to move Morgan Jones in with the rest of the survivors on the show. It’s hard to imagine what kind of role Morgan would play in the group and how he would mesh with the rest of the survivors. With how far it appears that Morgan is behind the rest of the group, it could be a while before he catches up to them.
In the meantime, we can all imagine what it would be like for Morgan to join the ranks of Rick, Daryl, Carol, Michonne and the rest of the group. It’s difficult to picture how much firepower he could add to a team, but knowing how long he survived on his own shows just how capable of a survivor he is.
