Is ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ Inspired By Bath Salts And Technology?

Fear The Walking Dead has fans of the undead very interested to see what the show has planned for viewers.  The new show is set in the same universe as AMC’s The Walking Dead and will tell the story about how the initial stages of the outbreak impacted life in California.

We’ve already learned about some of the established actors that are currently attached to the project.   With a cast including Cliff Curtis, Kim Dickens, Frank Dillane, Alycia Debnam Carey, and most recently Elizabeth Rodriguez, the show looks to be bringing a lot of validity with its actors.

However, the big question will be the show’s content.  What will be the focus of Fear The Walking Dead?  How will the show be able to draw in the views?  And what will make it unique to help separate it from the other dramas and zombie-related programs on television?

In a recent exclusive interview that Greg Nicotero had with melty about Fear The Walking Dead, he discussed what the goals are for Fear The Walking Dead and how they draw some of the inspiration for the show:

Perhaps the most interesting part of this interview was when Nicotero was talking about how Fear The Walking Dead will draw from society for topics to address on the show.  Here is what he had to say about that:

"“What’s important in the spin-off is how people react to it. It really is a fascinating statement on current society, because we get most of our information from our iPads and our phones. There have been things that have been happening in recent years… When you hear stories like that, about a guy who attacked someone and bit their face off, imagine how we reacted to that news story at the time.”"

Of course, we all know the story of the Florida man who was on bath salts and was eating another person’s face when police discovered him.  And most people these days are guilty of staring at their phone’s screen instead of paying attention to the world around them.  The media reacts wildly to stories surrounding technology and people can’t seem to stop talking about topics like these.

If Fear The Walking Dead can take those issues, adapt them to life in the zombie apocalypse, and make people care about these great actors playing characters that are dealing with familiar situations, the show has a great chance of succeeding.  As we get closer to the series premiere, I get more and more excited to see what Fear The Walking Dead has in store for its viewers.
