Will The Walking Dead Ever Have a ‘Star Wars Day’?

The Walking Dead has a massive following and is insanely popular, but will the series ever have a a special day like Star Wars Day?

We all know that The Walking Dead is one of the most popular shows on television, and the comics have helped give the series a following that is as intense as it is wide ranging. But will the series and the comics ever have the type of following that warrants an entire day of recognition like we just saw with Star Wars?

Every year, Star Wars is honored on the Fourth of May — typically called May the Fourth Be With You — which plays on the popular phrase from the films ‘May the Force Be With You’.

Some could say that Halloween is the unofficial holiday for The Walking Dead, but that’s a major cop out and is something that we really shouldn’t consider. Instead, we should ponder the idea of whether or not The Walking Dead deserves it’s own day of recognition.

Right now, the series and the comics just don’t have the cultural impact to have it’s own day, as Star Wars is something that is timeless and is rediscovered generation after generation. Maybe it’s because it’s more easily accessible than The Walking Dead, but right now the two franchises are in different galaxies.

The Walking Dead will always be popular, but there’s a chance that once the series ends the popularity that it has now fades. But to counter fears that The Walking Dead will fade into history, let’s ponder the following it has and how intense it is. You could easily see something like Breaking Bad starting up it’s own organic holiday on a given day of the week, and that’s something that could happen with The Walking Dead.

It’s not a certainty, but The Walking Dead getting it’s own unofficial holiday begins and ends with fans banding together to make it happen.
