Being An Actor On The Walking Dead Has Its Perks

The Walking Dead has a rabid group of fans.  Millions of people tune in to the show each week as well as collect The Walking Dead themed merchandise and interact with the stars of the program on social media.  People buy tickets to see the show’s stars at conventions as well as get autographs and photographs with them.

But that kind of celebrity comes with a price.  These prominent actors are recognized everywhere.  They can’t walk the streets without being recognized by a fan of the show wanting a photo or an autograph.  But that isn’t always a terrible thing.

In a recent interview with Vulture, Tovah Feldshuh (who plays Deanna Monroe on The Walking Dead) talked about some of the perks of being on one of the most popular shows on television.

"“I get recognized in Milan, at the ice-cream shops. You know, being a Broadway entity is marvelous, but it’s a local entity. When Lexus found out that I was with the Walking Dead, they discounted my tires! I thought that was hysterical.”"

There’s no doubt that Feldshuh was likely recognized once in a while from her work on Broadway or on shows like Law and Order, Crossing Jordan, and As The World Turns.  But a show like The Walking Dead can really increase the likelihood that fans would recognize her.

It’s even more impressive that Tovah Feldshuh is feeling this kind of popularity because she’s a recent addition to The Walking Dead.  Her character of Deanna has appeared in only 7 episodes of the most recent season, yet has made a big impact on the show and fans worldwide.

Tovah Feldshuh has even found that autographs and photos can be used as cash in some places.

"“I’m now bartering eight-by-tens with autographs for small favors, like a free extra plate of something that isn’t fried in the South, which is a treasure hunt. I tried my first fried pickles and fried tomatoes in Charleston this weekend at the Spoleto Festival; it’s delicious, but they fry everything. Maybe that’s why it’s so delicious.”"

Fried tomatoes and pickles are great and all, but truly understanding what being a part of The Walking Dead is an amazing thing.  It really is a family composed of the cast, crew and fans that all come together to enjoy one television program.

But Feldshuh’s story makes me wonder what other great things stars from The Walking Dead have been able to get from just being a recognizable star of the hit AMC show.  Especially stars like Norman Reedus and Andrew Lincoln.
