The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead will both be coming to San Diego Comic-Con this year, but series creator Robert Kirkman will not.

When the San Diego Comic-Con panel was announced for both The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead, the creator of both those series was scheduled to appear. That has since changed, as Robert Kirkman will be skipping Comic-Con this year for a very good reason.

On Tuesday, Kirkman announced that throat surgery was going to keep him from the event in San Diego this year — an ironic reason for the creator of zombie shows to miss an event.

Kirkman released a statement saying that recent throat surgery will keep him from attending Comic-Con this year in San Diego.

"“Unfortunately, after years and years of being healthier than my physique would indicate I had to have minor surgery on my throat. Nothing serious, but in the aftermath of such a fun experience, it comes with a brief duration of time where I’m unable to speak so all that pink business inside me can heal. As luck would have it, that period of time overlaps with Comic-Con.”"

Is Robert Kirkman infected? Do we need to say our peace while we can?

Kirkman should really play this up since he’s not going to be attending Comic-Con, plus it would be great publicity for Fear The Walking Dead and it’s eventual premiere date. Kirkman is going to be just fine in the long run, and it’s not out of the question that he will have some sort of special message for fans at Comic-Con since he’ll be absent.

If nothing else, his absence at Comic-Con might convince him to give us more than we were expecting, just to make up for not being there.
