Fear The Walking Dead: When is the first supply run?

Supply runs have become a fixture on AMC’s The Walking Dead.  In fact, we’re at the point in the apocalypse where these supply runs are necessary in order to get medical supplies, food and other items necessary for survival.  We know that things on Fear The Walking Dead are happening much closer to the start of the outbreak, but will we see supply runs?

In a recent interview from the folks over at SlashFilms.com, Fear The Walking Dead’s showrunner Dave Erickson was asked the following question:

"“My favorite part of zombie shows and movies is not the zombies. It’s the people looking for supplies in what’s left. How long before that becomes an issue for Fear the Walking Dead?”"

Fans of The Walking Dead are so used to not getting straight answers to questions like these, but the showrunner for Fear The Walking Dead offered a very specific answer that surprised me.  Here is what he said:

"“The only thing that resembles a supply run is in episode two, Madison’s trip to the school. But the way things are structured for the first season, we won’t get to the place of scavenging for survival. We won’t get to the place of we have to go and go through the neighbors’ cupboards to try to find canned goods. We see it a little bit in [episode] two with Tobias but we won’t hit that probably until season two.”"

So, we know that Madison returns to the school during season two to get something.  We also know that at this point Madison’s family will likely be shacked up in the Salazar barbershop.  The idea that there is enough food and supplies in there to last a season seems unlikely, so I have to assume they will be changing locations a couple of times.

We should expect supply runs later on in Fear The Walking Dead, but during season one there should enough stuff on hand to last a pretty good amount of time.  However, we know that things will get much, much worse very quickly and supplies will run out pretty quickly.

It’s good to know that season 1 of Fear The Walking Dead will give us a nice taste of the undead apocalypse since we already know how insane things will get in the future.  You can catch the pilot episode of Fear The Walking Dead on Sunday, August 23, 2015 on AMC.  Check your local listings for time and availability.
