Fear The Walking Dead: Who died in ‘The Dog’?

We have come to the end of episode three of Fear The Walking Dead and it’s time to review who (or what?) we lost this week.  Before we get into the specifics, I think we can all agree that there were several close calls.  Most of our survivors are still struggling with whether or not the infected are actually dead.  This appears to explain why Madison tried to talk to Artie in episode two and why Travis tried to negotiate with Peter in episode three.  Of course, it can be maddening for fans of the original series The Walking Dead, but we have to remind ourselves that they really don’t know yet. So on with the body count . . .

The episode begins with Travis, Liza, and Chris hiding out in the Salazar barber shop while people loot, set fires, and cause general mayhem outside their walls.  These same walls begin to ignite and the survivors make a run for it to Travis’ truck (which has amazingly been spared).

Here we see our first victim, a police offer being feasted upon by another officer.  We then see our first close call as Mrs. Salazar’s leg is trapped beneath some scaffolding.  Travis carries her to the truck bed and the group makes their way to Madison’s house.

Meanwhile, Madison, Nick, and Alicia have “monopolized” their time with a popular board game (sorry, couldn’t resist).  They keep hearing a noise.  Finally, Nick pulls back the curtains to reveal a dog scratching at the sliding glass doors, hoping to get in.  Nick lets the dog in and find its fur bloodied. The poor dog soon becomes victim number two when neighbor Peter enters the Clark home while Madison and kids are out looking for a neighbor’s shotgun. We have another close call when Alicia returns to the neighbor’s house for the shotgun shells. This neighbor, Susan, has turned and grabs for Alicia’s leg as she scrambles over the fence to safety with the help of Chris.

Travis engages with reanimated neighbor and dog-eater (really, did we have to see the poor dog’s dead eyes??) Peter in an attempt to “help” him.  Before Peter takes a bite out of Travis, Daniel Salazar shoots him once, and then a second time in the head to stop him from making Travis victim number three.  I guess we can say neighbor Peter is actually victim number three as his life cycle comes to an end with Salazar’s kill shot.

Susan’s husband, Patrick, nearly becomes number four as he returns from a trip and embraces his reanimated wife. Madison tries to warn Patrick, but the military suddenly appears to intervene instead.  While Susan is a goner, we are not certain of Patrick’s fate as the military merely said they had to take him away because he had infected blood on him.

I think that wraps it up for the deaths in episode “The Dog”: a police offer, the dog, and the elimination of infected neighbors, Peter and Susan. What do you think about the death toll so far?  Do you think we will lose any of our main characters this season?  We will reconvene next week!
