24 star Xander Berkeley joins cast of The Walking Dead

Breaking news! Actor Xander Berkeley is joining the cast of The Walking Dead! He’s rumored to debut in Season 6. A major talent, Berkeley is a veteran of the business with a distinctly memorable voice. Xander Berkeley is most remembered for the role of George Mason on Season 2 of 24. Particularly an act of valor performed in his final episode.

According to TVLine.com, Berkeley’s rumored to be playing a recurring character. Potentially extending past Season 6. Reportedly, Berkeley’s contract has a series-regular option for the following season. Indicating Walking Dead producers have substantial ideas in mind for the upcoming character. Although he is unlikely to be playing infamous comic favorite Negan.

Xander Berkeley Role Background:

Xander Berkeley most recently starred in TV show Salem, as character Magistrate Hale. You might have also caught Berkeley on Justified, Being Human, and Nikita to name a few. As 24 character George Mason, he was known as a tough as nails boss. One whose attitude occasionally irritated the rest of 24’s group. However, after an irreversible event, Mason becomes a changed man. Eventually choosing an act of self sacrifice to save everyone else. No detailed spoilers for those looking to watch Season 2 of 24! Still the best Season of the show.

One wonders if Xander Berkeley will be playing a similar character on The Walking Dead. Will he travel alone to Alexandria or as part of a larger group? A villain to antagonize Sheriff Rick Grimes, or a vigilante? Perhaps he adds to Alexandria’s dissension in some way, or maybe even part of the Wolves. Although Berkeley doesn’t really seem like a Wolves henchman type. Overall leader of the Wolves? Second in command to Negan? Both are certainly possibilities. He led once on 24, likely he’ll lead again on The Walking Dead.
