Expectations were high for Fear the Walking Dead. Ratings for the premiere were amazing. Reviews were mixed. Some people loved it. Some hated it. Some people were lukewarm, but willing to give it a chance. Fans were arguing with each other about what to expect and why the shows were different. Even giving the argument that if you’re a true Walking Dead fan, you’d give it a chance.

Well, we’re 4 episodes in and some people still just aren’t feeling it. They haven’t connected with any of the characters. They’ve become frustrated with the lack of forward movement in the story. Frustrated with the decisions that some of the characters are making as they face the denial of the end of civilization.

Trying to make these people like the show is silly. You can’t explain someone into liking something. People like what they like. And don’t like what they don’t like. That doesn’t mean it’s not good. It means they don’t care for it. If someone doesn’t like a Frida Kahlo painting, it doesn’t mean that person is an idiot. And it doesn’t mean Frida was not a great artist. She was a great artist and that person doesn’t care for her art.

If you don’t like a certain food, I can’t talk you into liking it. It doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with the food or wrong with you.

I love The Hunger Games trilogy and the third book, Mockingjay, is similar to Fear the Walking Dead  in that many fans loved it as their favorite of the three and many fans, like me, liked it, but didn’t love it and it was their least favorite in the series. I can read all the reviews of why Mockingjay is the best of the three and it still won’t make me like it any better.

Tweet yelling at people telling them how they need to give Fear more time and that they are too impatient or that they shouldn’t expect non-stop zombie killing isn’t going to make those people who don’t connect to Fear suddenly start loving it. If they don’t love it, they don’t love it.

If you love it, keep loving it. Don’t let the complaints of the people who don’t connect to it strip you of your joy in wathing it. Just keep loving it and tune out the poor souls who weren’t fortunate enough to connect with it. That’s the reason they are whining. Not to steal your joy, but because they are sad that their joy never came.
