Fear The Walking Dead: Why did Adams shoot who he did? [Discussion]
By Adam Carlson
Fear The Walking Dead‘s first season has come to an end, but questions about the show still exist. Many of the questions we had were answered during the season one finale, but there were others that left us scratching our heads. One of those moments involved. the group of survivors and one of the soldiers named Andrew Adams.
Adams was manipulated by Ofelia to try to get drugs for her mother and then was tricked into being abducted and tortured by Daniel Salazar in order to get information about the military’s plan for evacuation of the area. When Adams tracked down the group after being let go by Travis, he ended up shooting Ofelia in the arm before getting a major beatdown.
One of our faithful readers on Facebook asked us the following question:
“Why did Adams shoot Ofelia and not Daniel?”
We passed this question along to our friends at the Fear The Walking Dead After Show on theStream.tv. The hosts of the show, Su Castillo and Michael Tiberi, shared their opinions on the question in the video below. I encourage you to watch the entire video, as it is a fantastic wrap-up of the season 1 finale of Fear The Walking Dead, however if you just want to see what they have to say about the question, you can fast forward to around the 20:20 mark.
Personally, I think Andrew Adams felt very betrayed by Ofelia. Not only was he developing feelings for her and stuck his neck out to protect her at the fence at the beginning of the episode, but he was likely crushed when he discovered that he was only being used to get medicine and information.
I also don’t believe that Adams wanted to kill Ofelia with his shot. I believe he wanted her to hurt and that is why he didn’t shoot to kill. He also knew that hurting her would cause Daniel much more pain than if he had shot him. Still, it would be very, very difficult not to want to shoot the man who mutilated your body just to get a couple answers. Still, this scene was one that could have used a lot better and substantial build up or explanation.
