The Walking Dead: Here’s why I don’t make predictions
By Susie Graham
When people talk about The Walking Dead, they inevitably ask questions about who you think will die this season and why. People have theories about everything from when will Negan arrive and who will die by Lucille to the most recent is Glenn alive and how he could have survived.
I don’t know why but I’ve never really been interested in theories or predicting. I’ve written about it before. I wonder. I hope. But I don’t really speculate or create theories. As I was reading my Monday articles about yesterday’s show, I came across a funny post that made me laugh but made me realize something.
With The Walking Dead the theories never turn out to be right so why not just sit back and enjoy what happens. Why not just wonder. Say I have no idea if Glenn’s alive or dead. I don’t know what they’re going to do or how they’re going to do it.
Why not hope. Say I hope it’s going to be great whatever they do. The surprises and shocks have been some of the most gripping and emotionally affecting moments. When you detach from the outcome, you can be open to what they have to offer.
When you hold on too tight to your theories or to the outcome you have in mind, you are closed off to any surprises or twists or even just small moments of beauty that come up that don’t match your picture.

So here’s what I read from Funny or Die about Rick showing up at the gates of after being in the RV as a cliffhanger. “I read so many fan theories about how Rick was going to get up out of that jam. Most of them involved Daryl, two incorporated a time machine and more than a few seemed to suggest Rick is Kylo Ren, the villain in the new Star Wars. I didn’t read a single one that just said, “He walks out the front door and starts running.” Sometimes the answer is right in front of you!”
If you love predicting and coming up with theories, that’s cool. It’s just not in my nature. I’ll just sit back and wonder and stay open to the possibilities that have kept me coming back to The Walking Dead season after season, Sunday after Sunday.
