The Walking Dead: Is the group in the woods with Negan? [Discussion]

The Walking Dead introduced some new characters during season 6 episode 6, but who are these people and what group are they hiding from in the woods?

Lately, fans of AMC’s The Walking Dead have been introduced to a lot of new characters.  Whether it is new people from Alexandria, The Wolves, Eastman or just random people, these individuals have each made an impact on the show and changed the way the survivors live their lives.

In Sunday’s episode, Daryl Dixon came across three new characters in the woods who were trying to get away from a group that seems to have done them wrong.  While one of those survivors didn’t make it to the end of the episode, we were still left with the man and woman who stole Daryl’s crossbow and motorcycle.

And that led us to wondering who these people are and what connection they had to the group that was hunting them down.  We we’re the only one thinking about this, as Andrea Janina on Facebook had this question for us:

"“Are those members of Negan’s gang???? Is this the first we see of him???”"

Luckily, the hosts over at TheStream.TV’s The Walking Dead After show took the time to answer this question for us.  Su Castillo, Timothy Michael, and Michael Tiberi each gave their opinions on who they think they are and what their role might be on the show.

Here is TheStream.TV’s The Walking Dead After Show, which includes their answer to our question at the 28 minute mark:

Timothy Michael doesn’t think that it is Negan’s gang.  However, he does feel that is a group that is under Negan’s control.  Su Castillo added the theory that Wade might be one of the higher ranking people in Negan’s group and that’s why he’s trusted to go on missions like these.

Earlier in the show, Timothy talked about this maybe being a foreshadowing to The Saviors in the comic books, which are led by Negan.  With the recent casting news of Negan, it isn’t difficult to believe that the anti-hero could be making his appearance during The Walking Dead’s sixth season.

Personally, I firmly believe that these people are connected to Negan.  The people shooting at Daryl, Sasha Williams, and Abraham Ford, the three people in the woods, and the group hunting for them all seem to be connected to the group that Wade was talking about in the woods and Dwight was mentioning during his walk in the woods with Daryl.  Although I’m not sure how close the ties are, I’m sure there’s a connection and this meeting between Daryl and Dwight will help put the wheels in motion for a meeting between the two groups.
