The Walking Dead: The Complete Fifth Season will be available in the limited edition box set on December 1, 2015.  Here is what to expect from the set.

The first thing you notice when you see The Walking Dead: The Complete Fifth Season Limited Edition box is that it is BIG. I’ve never owned one of Todd McFarlane’s great statues that come with the Blu-Ray set, so this whole experience was new to me.

Opening the box, I was surprised to see that the styrofoam packaging divided into two parts.  The top portion held the discs in the limited edition case. And the bottom contained McFarlane’s artwork. We’ll talk plenty about the actual episodes and special features of The Walking Dead’s fifth season set, but first, we’d be doing a disservice if we didn’t focus on the statue.

The beauty of the napalm walker statue is in the details. The flesh falling off the walker’s bones is gruesomely realistic and is emphasized by body parts lying around it and nuked pavement.  When you get even closer, the look on the zombie’s face is mesmerizing.  If you look at if for long enough, it’s almost as if you can see the pain and hunger in its eyes.  When placed on your shelf, it is a great conversation starter as well as collector’s piece for any fan of The Walking Dead.

Although the statue is fantastic, it’s what you can hold inside that is the best part of the set. The black pavement slides backwards, and you can place your Blu-Ray copy of The Walking Dead: The Complete Season 5 inside for safe keeping.

One of the first things that you’ll notice is that the cover of the DVD box set is different from the standard edition. The regular version shows Rick Grimes and the note that Abraham Ford wrote on the map.  This one has a circle of walkers looking down, as if about to devour a meal.

On the discs, the material seems to be the same as the content that is available on the standard edition of The Walking Dead’s season 5 set.  However, that isn’t a bad thing, as this collection is absolutely loaded with special features, commentary, deleted scenes, and interviews that five you an inside look at how The Walking Dead works and what happens behind the scenes.

Here is a rundown of what is available on the five-disc collection:

All 16 episodes from season 5 of AMC’s The Walking Dead.  This is arguably the best season of the series, including action, adventure, drama, and even some comedy.  Those reading this likely already know how wonderful these episodes are, so there’s no use talking about that.

Audio commentaries featuring Showrunner/Executive Producer/Writer Scott M. Gimple; Executive Producer Gale Anne Hurd; Executive Producer Tom Luse; Executive Producer/Special Effects Make-Up Supervisor/Director Greg Nicotero; Director Julius Ramsay; Actors Lauren Cohan, Chad L. Coleman, Michael Cudlitz, Sonequa Martin-Green, Danai Gurira, Alana Masterson, Melissa McBride, Josh McDermitt, Norman Reedus, Christian Serratos, and Steven Yuen

No matter who your favorites on the show are, you can count on the commentary to make you smile.  It seems as though every major cast member got a turn at commentary, giving a little something for everyone.  Sure, watching the episodes is great, but listening to the cast and crew talking about the scenes and even making some jokes about what is going on is something that fans don’t get to see on television but shouldn’t want to miss out on.

Overall, this is a highly recommended buy for any fan of AMC’s The Walking Dead.  Not only is the McFarlane statue a piece of art, but the content on the discs is amazing and will be something that fans of the series will want to watch over and over. As I said before, I had never owned a limited edition set until now, but the extras make it well worth the price tag.

This beautiful collection of The Walking Dead: The Complete Fifth Season could be yours for the suggested retail price of $134.99.  You can pre-order it right now from Amazon.
