Ten weeks ago we ran a poll to see what characters the readers love from AMC’S The Walking Dead. Here are the results of that poll.

I ran this poll at the beginning of the season and kept it open through Thanksgiving. I told you I’d post the results during the midseason break and here we are! There were nearly 500 voters in this poll!

For a look at the entire poll results click here.

Abraham Ford. The Walking Dead - AMC
Abraham Ford. The Walking Dead – AMC /

Number 10: Sargeant Abraham Ford. Abraham entered our world when he found Glenn and Tara on their way to Terminus to find Maggie after the Governor initiated the fall of the prison. Abraham had two partners, Eugene and Rosita, and a mission. Abraham is still part of our survivors’ group even after his mission hit a speed bump. He is smart, capable, straightforward, and has a fantastically creative vocabulary.

Morgan Jones, The Walking Dead - AMC
Morgan Jones, The Walking Dead – AMC /

Number 9: Morgan Jones. Morgan has been a beloved character from the first episode of the series. Only recently has he had detractors. Times have changed since we met Morgan and he taught Rick and us about what the walkers were. We wished him the courage to kill his wife, but loved him for not being able to do it. We cheered every time we thought we’d see him again. Time will tell how Morgan will fare with his ability to handle this world.

Number 8: Beth Greene. Beth entered our lives a young girl on the farm who thought things were hopeless after the doors of the barn were opened. After they had to leave the farm, Beth began to help others in the prison and then learned how to take care of herself when she had to leave the prison.

Maggie Greene, The Walking Dead - AMC
Maggie Greene, The Walking Dead – AMC /

Number 7: Maggie Greene. Maggie also entered our lives on the farm and was naïve to the truth about the walkers. Maggie is devoted to Glenn and has become a leader in her own way. She is determined, some might say stubborn, and looks to the future.  We recently found out that Maggie is expecting a baby.

Hershel Greene. The Walking Dead. AMC
Hershel Greene. The Walking Dead. AMC /

Number 6: Hershel Greene.  Hershel spent quite a bit of time when we first met him trying to get rid of us. He believed the walkers were sick. Even so, we still liked him; he was clearly a good man.  Although Hershel did not have any use for Shane, Shane did help Hershel snap out of his denial. Once the wall of denial came down, Hershel took us in. He loved and advised us at the farm and the prison until he was taken from us by The Governor.

Number 5: Carol. Carol has become a favorite for many reasons. I believe that her connection to Daryl was a beginning, but with her dramatic evolution, starting with killing Karen and David, and including her “tying you to a tree” warning to Sam, she has climbed to the top of people’s lists of interesting characters. Then this year the “blending in as a Wolf” and clashing with Morgan has solidified her badass queen status in the eyes of many fans.

Number 4: Glenn. The pizza boy from season 1 who met a girl in season 2 and has grown up and continues to survive, to fight and to care makes his way to number 4 on the list. He hasn’t yet killed a human. He sacrifices for the greater good when necessary-think going to Washington instead of having Rick and Abraham fight. He knows they need to try to make a go of civilization, but he also knows this is a crazy world.

Number 3: Michonne. The only character in the top 5 who is not from the original group. Michonne didn’t join the group until season 3. She’s my favorite character. Michonne is wise and strong  and caring. She’s very guarded. There’s a lot of important stuff inside of her mind and her heart that will help the group .

Rick Grimes, The Walking Dead - AMC
Rick Grimes, The Walking Dead – AMC /

Number 2: Rick Grimes. Michonne is my favorite character, but to me, Rick Grimes is The Walking Dead. Rick is a man who was a cop who took responsibility for people and kept people safe. While there have been many different Ricks over the seasons. All the Ricks have had that in common.

Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon, The Walking Dead - Gene Page/AMC
Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon, The Walking Dead – Gene Page/AMC /

Number 1: Daryl Dixon. Surprise. SurpriseDaryl lovers will tell you they loved him from the start. Maybe they did, but Daryl became loveable starting right around the time they got to the CDC and more so when Sophia got lost. He has obviously become a huge fan favorite. We know riots will occur if he dies. He earned 75% of the poll votes.
