Our readers have chosen their top 20 most memorable walkers from AMC’S The Walking Dead.  The number 6 and 7 spots include super cool walker effects.

Walker effects sometimes include the look of the walkers. What are they wearing? Do their clothes show the results of weather or injury or meals?  What has happened to their skin? Have they fed recently? Any number of environmental or behavioral factors that influence their outer appearance.

Other times the effects are more about the killing. What happens to their bodies when they are stabbed or shot or pushed or smooshed. Do they keep coming? Are they finished?  Spot 6 has cool looks, Spot 7 is just a super cool and super fast kill.

Number 7: Triple Kill with the Chain

After unleashing a semi truck full of W foreheaded walkers that were waiting for a day out in the fresh air after their nightly rave with the Wolves, Daryl used a chain to behead three walkers between the trucks in a split second kill that had even me yelling, “Whoa!”

There’s not much to say about it. I could try to describe it in a florid “Anne Rice-three-paragraphs-to-describe-a-table” fashion, but there’s a video right there with the kill in slow motion and everything. (By the way, I love Anne Rice, vive Lestat! But I do skim sometimes!)

Sewer Walkers

We saw some walkers affected by water back at the food pantry, and now we have walkers affected by water, sewer waste, and time. They were magnificent.  The underground lighting gave them a golden cast. Time and moisture left them with little muscle or anything else.

Next: Number 5

The flashlights gave them greenish ghostly looks. They were just about as skeletal as possible without being completely clean skeletons. It’s difficult to imagine where their strength came from other than a deep desire to eat. Not to mention how did their senses work? Smell, hearing, vision?

Coleman Youmans played one of these sewer walkers. Steve Underwood is the walker in the middle of the 3 Daryl got with his chain.

So grossness wins in making walkers memorable for numbers 6 and 7.
