Andrew

Andrew is another interesting case, and I feel like his potential as a hostile or ally is dependent or two specific moments: When Rick kills Tomas, and when Andrew finds himself locked out with the walkers. The first time we meet him, the only direct violent action he takes is trying to kill Rick after Rick kills Tomas. This seems largely an act of loyalty to Tomas, as, unlike Tomas, he made no such attempt until the former had been killed.

This has made me wonder: If Tomas had died from some other means (Let’s say he got bitten, for example), would he have lashed out at Rick or become a hostile? One has to wonder if he’d have been so hostile without the violent Tomas to back him up and if he’d accept coexisting with The Group, especially if things were running fairly smoothly.

Of course, the other moment that I want to look at is when Rick locked him out with the walkers. As we can see in the picture, Andrew begged Rick to let him back inside. What if Rick had? Or, would he have just been biding his time, looking for the opportunity to hatch the scheme he eventually did try, and activate the alarm and try to force The Group out anyway?

I’m ambivalent. On the one hand, I believe it may be possible, if given that second chance, Andrew may have adjusted to The Group, and may have even rallied with them in the face of The Governor’s first attack, on the other hand, I also have it on good authority that, even if he had gotten that chance, that he still may not have accepted being part of The Group, and may have continued trying to be a threat, so…
