The Walking Dead: Chris Hardwick may play a walker
By Susie Graham
Next season on Talking Dead we may get to hear Chris Hardwick talk about what it’s like to be a walker for a day on The Walking Dead.
Whenever you talk about The Walking Dead with people who really love the show, inevitably people will say they wish they could be on the show. You hear people say all the time that they would love to be a zombie on the show.
Chris Hardwick may get that chance next season.According to Comicbook.com, Chris brought up the idea with Greg Nicotero after the finale episode of Talking Dead last week.
"“I talked to Nicotero tonight, and I said that if the offer was still open I would go down and be a, they could make me up like a walker, and he said that they would, so I might get to be a walker. I would not be front and center, I’d be in the background somewhere. You’d have to pause and draw an arrow so you could see it.”"
Several things about that quote make me excited about the prospect of Chris getting to play a walker on the show. Chris loves the show as much as we do and he knows most of the actors and producers of the show. This would give him a great chance to get to know some of the crew and the other walkers as well as how things work in filming.
He could use that information to help fans understand what goes into shooting an episode. We get little snippets of behind-the-scenes footage and interviews on Talking Dead and DVD special features, but this would be a great paradigm-shifting experiential point of view that he could now add to his interviews and weekly discussions.
I’m also glad he pointed out that he wouldn’t be front and center, but would be someone in the background. I think people forget that even though walkers don’t speak, the people who play the walkers are actors. I imagine it takes a lot of work to take direction, hit marks and be believable as a walker in so many ways.
I remember once seeing a clip of a young Chandler Riggs showing Greg Nicotero his zombie walk and Greg told him to keep working on it or it needed work or something to that effect!
Next: The Walking Dead is still the biggest show on TV
The featured walkers are also in incredible make ups and prosthetics that take time to put on and take off. You don’t just show up for and hour to get your make up done, do a zombie walk for 5 minutes and chit chat with the stars before you head home to watch yourself in the spotlight on television the next week. At least I don’t imagine that’s how it works.
We will find out all about Chris’ walker experience next season on Talking Dead. The other thing Chris might experience is having to keep a secret. If he’s on set and knows who Negan killed, Lord help him!
