Fear the Walking Dead: Mercedes Mason talks possible Nick and Ofelia relationship
By Susie Graham
There have been couples on Fear The Walking Dead from day one. Could Nick Clark and Ofelia Salazar join the couples on the show?
As I’ve read about the possibility of Nick and Ofelia, it has been framed with the idea of them being the first Fear the Walking Dead couple. That doesn’t seem quite right to me.
Alicia had Matt. Daniel had Griselda. Madison has Travis. Strand even has Abigail, possibly. But I understand what they mean–in the apocalypse. Nick had Gloria. Ofelia had Adams. And Alicia had Jack. Perhaps Nick and Ofelia could be the first couple of the apocalypse…that sticks!
Mercedes Mason thinks that might be in the cards for them. According to Comicbook.Com, Mercedes said, “There could be something stirring up.”
"“I think they’re close in age, they’re sort of of the same mind-set, they have the same view of the world, and I think Nick is showing some interest by helping her out,” Mason says. “She’s always had her family there before so it’s the first time somebody from outside world is showing her kindness, especially at a time where she really needs that. She’s lost her mom, she’s physically hurt because of the bullet wound, she doesn’t trust her dad, and Nick is the only one who without asking has catered to her. He brought her her rosaries and got antibiotics for her when he was out on a scout and finds clothes for her. He’s really gone above and beyond to show that he’s potentially interested so we’ll see how that progresses. Obviously, it’s only been a few weeks that they’ve known each other so I wouldn’t want them to jump into anything too soon. I think there might be something on the horizon there.”"
I agree with Mercedes. Nick has become a different person since he’s been clean. He has shown an interest in Ofelia not just her beauty, but her well-being.
Nick and Ofelia may find they have more in common than they might think. They’ve both been over-protected by their parents. They both have had the safety net of their parents though. It’s time for them to assert themselves and become grown ups.
Next: Is Blood all that matters?
They’d be great to take care of each other in this crazy world that they are about to reside in together. Perhaps Ofelia can learn to trust her father again through Nick because Nick has experienced a hard life that included lies and deception as well.
Maybe Nick and Ofelia will be Maggie and Glenn!
