The Walking Dead Finale: Red Rover Walker Scene
By Susie Graham
The Red Rover line of walkers was a memorable scene in the season 6 finale of The Walking Dead that deserves a little deeper look.
While Negan and the cliffhanger seem to be the big story of the season 6 finale of The Walking Dead, now that we have time to breathe, it’s time to examine other parts of the finale that don’t involve conspiracy theories or baseball bats.
During walker withdrawal season I’d like to look deeper into the other scenes of the finale and see what they can tell us. We will have plenty of time to wait for the answer to the Lucille question and there are plenty of places to discuss your guesses.
I started this little series with the scene where Abraham and Eugene talk and hug before Eugene drives off in the RV. Let’s continue with the scene where the RV group meets a chain gang of walkers blocking the road.
At once, this scene is just a really cool scene with walkers. The Walking Dead does some groovy stuff with the walkers that is simply aesthetically awesome. The walkers themselves here are superb. They are emaciated with rib cages visible and loose trousers with beautifully straggly long hair on skeletal faces.

Chains keep these felony miscreants in line. Their only crime is being infected; they have been recruited to serve as a deterrent to our survivors. Aside from the sheer magnificence of the walkers visually, Eugene makes a keen observation–this red rover line took numbers to create. The finale was all about slowly losing our confidence and realizing that we had gotten ourselves into a situation that was much bigger and badder than we could have imagined.
This was just one of the stops along the way that knocked the wind out of us. Started to plant some fear. Some doubts. Who are these people? How many of them are there? How do they seem to be everywhere. And now we know they have Michonne and Daryl. And likely Rosita and Glenn.
And they are cocky enough to take the time to block the road with walkers and taunt us with pieces of hair and clothing, And they are hiding in the woods and could have killed us at any time if they really wanted us dead.

This scene was the beginning of several that eroded the confidence of our characters. We had to watch our family become frightened and there was nothing we could do to help them. We knew what was coming. We knew this was just the beginning. We just had to watch it happen.
