Walking Dead creator and AMC to develop comic history show

The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman will be part of an upcoming television series from AMC titled The History of Comic Books, which premieres in 2017.

Robert Kirkman is a busy man these days. Not only is he hard at work on The Walking Dead‘s comic book series, television show and companion series Fear The Walking Dead, but he’s got other projects like Cinemax’s Outcast coming out as well.

It appears as though Kirkman will lend his hand to another new series. This time, according to The Hollywood Reporter, it will be titled The History of Comic Books and is planned to be a 6 episode long run of one hour episodes.

Here is what The Hollywood Reporter had to say about the upcoming series:

"“The six-episode hourlong series will premiere in 2017 and explore the stories, people and events that transformed the comic book industry. AMC touted that the series will offer origin stories to the untold history behind iconic characters as well as examine subjects including pop culture, race, gender and sexuality.”"

Of course, AMC already has a nice flow of comic book love on their network. Not only do they have the most popular show on television in The Walking Dead and the upcoming premiere of Preacher, but the Kevin Smith led Comic Book Men is also going strong on the network. Now, they’ll attempt go get more of that great comic audience with The History of Comic Books.

More details about The History of Comic Books miniseries on AMC will become available as it gets closer to the series premiere, but for now it’s interesting to see such a great subject tackled by one of the great success stories in the comic book industry.

You can see Robert Kirkman’s work when The Walking Dead returns for season 7 this October to AMC. In addition, his companion series Fear The Walking Dead is reaching the midseason point for season 2 and his new series Outcast will make its debut on Cinemax on June 3, 2016.
