Fear the Walking Dead: Comic Con will be different this year

Last August Fear the Walking Dead made its debut. The cast was introduced to the fans at San Diego Comic-Con with panels and a trailer. This year will be different.

Last year at Comic Con International : San Diego, we knew nothing about the companion series that would be Fear the Walking Dead. Comic-Con was our first look at the cast and the trailer.

We were trying to learn the names of the actors and the characters and get an idea of who they were. Would we like them? What would they call the walkers? We were filled with questions.

We even thought about the fact that this year at this time we would all know who they were. They wouldn’t be strangers anymore. Well, that time is here. We know the Fear characters now.

We’ve made it through 13 episodes. We’ve lost characters already. The fans have experienced the growing pains of trying to accept all the things that the actors and producers tried to tell us last year at Comic-Con–it’s a different show set in the same apocalypse.

It’s focused on family drama and problems more than larger than life situations and characters. It’s different. The show had some viewers that just didn’t take to it, but it has other people who love it and some who stuck with it and are glad they did because they think it’s getting more exciting as it goes.

It’s good timing for Comic-Con and the Fear the Walking Dead crowd. If Comic-Con had come right after season 1, they might have been bogged down by some negativity. But I think the people who attend the panels now are pretty invested in the show and want to see good things develop with the characters.

Some pretty unexpected things happened at the end of the midseason finale. It should be fun for the cast and producers to answer questions this time with actual fans of the show instead of potential fans. I imagine it will be less stressful than last year’s con when they had all of the high expectations and pressure on the show ahead of them.

Next: Fear panel at WSC: Chris and Tobias

We still have over a month of summer to enjoy before Comic-Con. So eat ice cream and swim, picnic and bike ride, golf, mini-golf, cook on the grill, or whatever you do to have summer fun. Don’t let the summer get away from you. But we’ll be here with all of the excitement come  July 21!
