By Adam Carlson
The Walking Dead entered the 2016 Saturn Award with seven nominations, but just how many trophies did the hit AMC zombie survival drama bring home?
Each year, the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films gets together to honor the best in each of those genres with trophies at the Saturn Awards. This year, AMC’s hit show The Walking Dead walked into this year’s event with 7 nominations, the most of any television show.

While the zombie survival drama didn’t wind up winning all the categories in which they were nominated, the results for The Walking Dead are very impressive. The cast and crew of the hit show walked away with three awards, proving that there are academies out there who highly respect the work AMC does on the show.
Here are the categories where The Walking Dead came up victorious and the individuals who took home the trophy in each according to Variety:
Best Horror Television Series – The Walking Dead
- Beating out other incredible shows like American Horror Story: Hotel, Salem, The Strain, and Ash vs Evil Dead, The Walking Dead proved to be one of the best shows on television by bringing home the Saturn Award for season 6.
Best Supporting Actress on Television – Danai Gurira
- Known for her role as Michonne, Gurira showed a different side of herself during this season of the show. She continued being the zombie killing machine, but added a tender side with the evolving relationship between her character and Rick Grimes.
Best Performance by a Younger Actor in a Television Series – Chandler Riggs
- The actor who plays Carl Grimes doesn’t get nearly enough love. For the Saturn Awards to recognize the efforts of Riggs during season 6 is fantastic since he had a great long-running conflict with Ron Anderson, suffered a horrendous injury, and shared some great scenes with Katelyn Nacon, who plays Enid.

Hopefully, other awards shows will take notice of the love that the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films showed for AMC’s The Walking Dead at the Saturn Awards and realize that the hit show is a lot more than just blood, gore, and jump scares. There is some great drama going on, and a huge thank you goes out to the Saturn Awards for proving that.
