Season 6 of The Walking Dead featured herds of walkers, but there were some that stood out from the herd. Let’s look at some of these. Meet Exposed Muscles Gang.

The start of season 6 brought some interesting walkers and techniques in story telling. We began essentially right where we left off in season 5 after the Reg and Pete situation when Deanna told Rick to, “Do it,” and Morgan arrived at the gates of Alexandria.

Yet we moved around in time using a jigsaw puzzle effect of pieces that we put together as the show moved forward using context clues and the cinematic clue of black and white for scenes from the past, which was right after season 5 and color for scenes from the present, which was a short time later.

Rick was hell-bent on the Alexandrians learning what it was really like outside the walls and cracking their shell of denial. They had been coddled too long here with their parties and book clubs.

The cool walkers we see here have been malnourished and they are starting to lose their protective layer of skin. We see their muscles and their bones. They have a wonderful medical journal anatomy look to them.

These two were played by Adam Albert (left) and Ben Bladon (right). Ben’s pre-walker dude had some good dental insurance before things went bad.

These walkers were important to the story because Rick used them as a baptism by fire for Carter and some of the Alexandrians. Instead of helping them or teaching them how to kill walkers, he just pointed at these walkers as if to say “there you go, show me how tough you are.”

Another interesting thing about these beautiful red muscle walkers is that because they were part of things that occurred in the past, we saw them in black and white.

These walkers were great examples of the general decay and terrific effects that we could expect from season 6 as well as the importance to the stories that the walkers have. Walkers don’t have to be unique to be spectacular. There is greatness in their ordinariness and even in their similarities.
