The Walking Dead: Deanna was based on Hillary Clinton
By Adam Carlson
The Walking Dead actress Tovah Feldshuh based her character of Deanna Monroe on current politician and presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton.
One of the most interesting characters fans got to know over the course of season 5 and season 6 of AMC’s The Walking Dead was Alexandria’s leader, Deanna Monroe. Based on a male character from the comic, this role was landed by former Law and Order actress Tovah Feldshuh.

Like other actors on the popular zombie drama, Feldshuh found motivation for her character from a real-life source. According to a panel at Walker Stalker Con in Edison, New Jersey as described by EpicStream.com, that politician could be one of the most important people in the world very soon.
"“I based her Hillary Clinton, because she was my senator,” Feldshuh said."
Of course Hillary Clinton is the democratic candidate hoping to become the President of the United States of America this November. As a powerful woman who has held many different political positions and watched her husband Bill Clinton as President, her knowledge of the system could be to her advantage this election, much like Deanna’s system when deciding who to raise to power in Alexandria.
"“I would have used her [Deanna] as the head of state to forge relationships with other communities. Rick (Andrew Lincoln) would have been Colin Powell, and I would have been the president of the United States.”"
This theory would have been put to the test later on if Deanna hadn’t sealed her doom when she was bitten by walkers during season 6 of The Walking Dead. However, Feldshuh would have tried a different approach when it came to The Saviors and the meetings with other communities.
"“It would have been a mix of different intelligences. He [Rick] would have been my muscle and I would have been his brain,” Feldshuh said."
Sadly, fans were forced to say goodbye to Deanna during season 6, but her character left a huge mark on the popular AMC show. Of course, she didn’t want to leave so soon, but she understands that is how live can be in the zombie apocalypse.
"“Everyone goes on The Walking Dead to die, and they don’t want to face it. And what that brings up is that you don’t want to die,” she said."

The Walking Dead will return for season 7 on AMC this October. Deanna Monroe’s only remaining relative will attempt to carry on the family name and do so with honor. Best of luck to Spencer (played by Austin Nichols) on surviving the zombie apocalypse as long as possible.
