Great Character Introductions on The Walking Dead: Merle’s Return
By Susie Graham
We only meet a character once. Sometimes that introduction is just woven into the story. Other times it’s a dramatic event. Let’s look at some of the great introductions on The Walking Dead.
Wait. We met Merle Dixon already. We can’t meet him again. I guess my little heading paragraph for these character introduction articles in this series isn’t completely accurate after all.
It’s true we’re really not meeting Merle again; we already know him. But he’s been away long enough that he’s being introduced to our story again, We aren’t really getting any new impressions about Merle himself, we know old Merle. But we are getting a surprise. He’s back!

Andrea and Michonne had been together for the winter after Andrea had been left behind when the barn went up in flames after the walkers took over the farm when Carl shot walker Shane.
They stumbled upon the situation with the soldiers and the Governor. When Michonne’s pets made too much noise, she killed them. Andrea and Michonne were hiding, hoping nobody heard them or saw them behind the leaves. No such luck. A voice from behind stopped them. Merle Dixon.
"“Easy does it girl. Mine’s a whole lot bigger than yours. Now, put down your weapons. That’s it. Nice and easy. Let me see your hands. Now spin around. That’s it. Nice little twirl around. Holy shit. Blondie. Damn. You’re looking…good. Now. How’s about a big hug for your old pal Merle.”"

Andrea passed out from shock. We didn’t pass out, but we were thrilled and surprised with the return of Merle Dixon, He made it off the roof without his hand and he’s alive!
He’s with the weird man and his group, and we’d find out more as the episodes progressed that season but all we needed to know then was Merle was back.
