The Walking Dead Season 7: One character safe from Negan
By Susie Graham
Robert Kirkman spoke to The Walking Dead magazine and confirmed a spoiler about the season 7 premiere and the safety of one of the characters in the line-up.
In The Walking Dead Magazine, Tara Bennett caught up with Robert Kirkman to discuss season six and plans for season 7. During the interview, Robert caught himself as he spoiled one of the characters who is safe. ( Spoilers ahead!)
He also put to rest some interesting rumors and speculation about when they knew what the plans were for the finale and who would be on the other end of Lucille when Negan said, “It.”
According to Kirkman the big wigs knew what the plan was from the beginning of season six. Even before season six they had been talking about who they thought it should and shouldn’t be.
"From the beginning of season six, it was all decided and set in stone. The actor was informed but not everyone else was told. I see a lot of speculation online where people are like, “Nobody knows who dies,” and we were waiting for that reaction. It was all inaccurate and weird speculation. The [season seven premiere] was written when that finale aired, so we’ve known for a very long time."
Most people are pretty confident that Rick is safe from Lucille, but Kirkman confirmed it as he was speaking about the direction of season 7 and how season 6 Rick plays into things.
"But looking at this as Rick’s story, if you watch season six you see from the very first episode, when they are dealing with the herd and Rick is fighting with the people in Alexandria, that he’s 100 percent in control. He gets more and more power and control over the course of the season. He makes decisions that are harsh and brutal, hunting down Saviors and killing them. Season six Rick is probably more confident, more secure, more relaxed and comfortable than we’ve ever seen him.Look at Andrew LIncoln’s performance, trembling and shaking and saying nothing and just listening to Negan. He’s powerless to what’s coming. When we see who was killed and what the outcome of that is, and where that leads Rick and the rest of the survivors–I guess I just gave up that it’s not Rick, so it’s not Rick [spoiler!-ed.]–that’s the beginning of a new story."
So, it’s not Rick. Yet. And even though on Talking Dead they said the actors didn’t know. I was one of those who thought that even the big wigs didn’t know. I should have been smarter. They have plans very far in advance. It makes sense that they knew what the plan was and the direction that the show would take in season 7.
I hate spoilers, but this one is okay with me. I was pretty sure it wasn’t Rick. Other than that, I’m just going to wait patiently until October and see what happens as it unfolds on Sunday, October 23. I can’t bring myself to wonder about the myriad of scenarios and ramifications from each of those scenarios. I’m never right and I like to just enjoy the ride.
