The Walking Dead: Spencer voices concern in season 7
By Adam Carlson
The Walking Dead could be different during season 7, as it appears that Spencer Monroe will be vocal about his displeasure in how the settlement is run.
Season 7 will not be a very happy time in the world of AMC’s The Walking Dead. With many of the most important characters in the show with their lives in the hands on Negan, odds are that there will be a lot of death and sadness in the future of the show.

With all the focus on who Negan killed in the season 6 finale, the Comic Con trailer for season 7 had many small nuggets of drama that were overshadowed by an emotional and powerful opening piece. One of the most overlooked involved Spencer Monroe.
In a quick scene during the trailer around the 1:52 mark, Spencer could be seen raising his concerns about how things were being handled in the situation involving The Saviors and Negan. Although he had a chance to voice his opinion at the town hall meeting before the assault on the satellite compound, he sat quietly while Morgan spoke his piece.
Now, it appears as though the son of the former leader of Alexandria doesn’t like the direction that Alexandria is headed, as during the trailer he delivered the following line:
"“We should’ve made a deal with them when we could’ve.”"
This shouldn’t be a surprise to fans of The Walking Dead comic book series. In fact, things get really awkward when Spencer approaches Negan about Rick Grimes and how the communities in the area are being led.
And what he had to say about Rick Grimes wasn’t the nicest.
"“I understand what you’re trying to do… To build here, with all these people. I can’t say I agree with all your methods, but I get it. You’re building a network, and you’re making people work together, contribute to a greater good… It all makes sense. Rick Grimes is not someone who works well with others. I’m just warning you. Rick wasn’t originally the leader here… It was my father and he was doing a much better job of it. Rick came along, with his group, and really wrecked things for us here. He’s… Well… He’s a maniac. That’s the best way to put it. He may even want to work with you, but I’m telling you… This guy can’t not be the boss. He’s gotta be in charge… Otherwise, his ego drives him nuts.”"
But Spencer wasn’t done there. He continued and offered his services as a leader.
"“Well… I am my father’s son. I think I can be the leader he was… I think that’s what we need… What you need.”"
It will be interesting to see if the hit AMC television show continues this story from the comics or if they adjust it so that Spencer gets to live beside the others in Alexandria and carry on the family name.

At least it seems at though Spencer Monroe will get more television time during season 7 of The Walking Dead. The character played by Austin Nichols has mostly been a background character to this point, but there is enough motivation for Spencer to be an impact player when the popular zombie survival drama returns to AMC in October.
