The Walking Dead: Why is hair such a popular topic?
By Adam Carlson
Fans of AMC’s The Walking Dead seem to be obsessed with keeping track of the facial hair and hairstyles of characters and actors from the zombie drama.
Doing a search for The Walking Dead on Google these days can lead to some really strange results. One of the most popular topics right now is about how Negan could have a new look during season 7 of the popular show.

The “new look” would be nothing major. In fact, the only difference we may see from Negan is that he could be clean-shaven like his comic book counterpart. But that won’t stop most media outlets from running wild with the story, making it sound like it will be something groundbreaking when the show returns.
This isn’t the first time hair is such an insane topic. It wasn’t that long ago that Lauren Cohan was seen sporting a shorter hairstyle and it led to rumors of her being killed off the show. This was all even though Maggie’s change in style was already documented in the comic book source material.
Then you have the long hair of Carl Grimes. The fact that Chandler Riggs and his character can be seen sporting an impressive head of hair has been a point of contention between fans of the show, show can be seen on social media saying that the actor (and character) need a haircut.
Sprinkle in discussion about how Abraham keeps his facial hair so clean, how the ladies don’t have Chewbacca style legs and armpits, and why every guy doesn’t have a big bushy beard, and you have way too much talk about hair on a show that focuses on people trying to survive the zombie apocalypse.

Could Negan look a little different when The Walking Dead returns? Yes. But there have been many changes the he appearances of characters like this over the years and the reaction to them have always been over the top.

The major thing to take away from changes to these characters is to remember that The Walking Dead is just a television show. Before speculating too much about which characters will die because of haircuts or disliking a character because they let their hair grow, just remember that it’s the story of the zombie apocalypse and fans should sit back and enjoy the story we’re being told.
