The Walking Dead Villains: Who’s The Worst, Part 6
By Liam O'Leary
Ron
Hoooooboy. Now we’re really getting somewhere…
Card’s on the table: Until his death, Ron was a shoe-in for *Clenches fist* That Guy! Of The Year, in fact, he was nearly reaching for Martin levels of despicability.
I will repeat that: Martin levels.
Now, you may think to yourself: “He was a sniveling creep, sure, and he tried to kill Carl, but…Martin levels? REALLY?”
Oh yes. You see, it was rather easy to overlook, but, if you paid attention, you could see that Ron’s attempt to kill Carl was not some spur of the moment act, but was, in fact, something he’d been planning for a little while, and that makes all the difference.
Let me show you…
First, in “Now”, after being shoved to the ground by Carl (Which wasn’t that hard, by the way), rather than picking himself up, Ron just…lies there.
Now, normally, this would be innocuous — he’s just lying on the ground, after all — but, considering that he ultimately tries to murder Carl, what this actually shows us is the first stages of Ron planning this heinous crime!
Of course, I can’t expect you to believe premeditation based solely on that, and I don’t: I have more evidence where that came from…
A couple episodes later in “Heads Up”, as Rick and Carl are giving Ron a gun training lesson, while Carl gives Ron pointers, Ron looks at him but never speaks to him.
This seems like it might have been an attempt by Ron to dehumanize Carl, to make it easier, psychologically, to kill him.
Furthermore, as Carl tells him “You have to be strong enough to wait for your moment.”, Ron just sort of…stares of into the distance, once again as if he’s going over in his mind what he’s planning to do to Carl.
Lastly, near the end of the lesson, Ron, rather eagerly, suggests using silencers, and only backs away after Rick seems concerned by his eagerness.
Once again, ordinarily, this wouldn’t be much to go on, but, if you recall his attempt to shoot Carl in the back (As seen at the top of this page), you can see why he might have wanted a silencer, as it’s ideal for that sort underhanded murder.
In light of all that, it almost makes Ron’s eventual attempt on Carl’s life seem like an afterthought, as it was clearly him scrambling to come up with a new plan as the situation had changed and made his earlier one no longer viable.
Suffice it to say, when you add together all these rather frightening little details, it paints a picture of young man who walking down a very dark path, one that made him desensitized to the idea of murdering other people.
…Now, where else have I seen that?
