Dwight

Now, I was thinking of dedicating a page to The Saviors as a whole, but, I chose instead to focus on a couple of specific members, whose actions or behavior might separate them from the rest of their group. The first of these is Dwight.

Now, in our initial meeting with Dwight, he, his wife, Sherry, and his sister-in-law, Tina, are attempting to escape from a someone (Who we don’t discover the identity of at the time).

After losing Tina to the walkers of two kids she used to babysit; Daryl, believing Dwight and Sherry are otherwise decent people, begins asking them The Three Questions…only to have the two of them steal his crossbow and his motorcycle and leave him stranded in a burnt forest.

For a while, this is all we see of Dwight, but, of course, it wouldn’t be the last…

The next time we see Dwight, now sporting a burn scar on his face (And making him look like Two-Face), he’s shooting Denise through the eye with Daryl’s crossbow!

On top of that, he threatened to kill Eugene, too! If it wasn’t bad enough he’d already killed Denise, he seemed intent to kill even more people!!

Sadly, this wasn’t the last crime he’d commit this season, as while Daryl went looking for him, to avenge Denise, the miserable bastard turns around and shoots Daryl in the shoulder!

I suppose what makes Dwight so awful is the fact all of the things he’s done since his initial encounter with Daryl could have been avoided.

He could have not shot Daryl, he could have not threatened to kill Eugene, and he could have not succeeded in killing Denise if he had just had a little faith.

Daryl gave him and his wife a choice.

He offered them the chance to join a normal community; a community of people who worked together, not out fear of a maniacal leader or because of a shared lust for violence, but because they cared enough for one another and their community to risk themselves to uphold and defend it.

This is the community Dwight and Sherry could have joined, but…no.

Dwight chose, rather than have a little faith, brought himself and his wife back to Negan and his, as Sherry so aptly put it, “batshit” rules. His lack of faith ultimately left him scarred, and forced to become a killer for The Saviors.

This is the fate he chose, yet, others have had to suffer for it.
