The Walking Dead is one of those shows where it can sometimes take multiple viewings of the same scene to really grasp the intensity of what happened and understand character motivations. Thankfully, there are ways to get that kind of insight when you’re a fan of AMC’s zombie survival drama.

For many folks, their psychiatrist is Chris Hardwick and the members of Talking Dead. But for those who need another look into the show, look no further than the special features on The Walking Dead: The Complete Sixth Season, available on DVD and Blu-Ray on August 23, 2016.
Today, a video clip from the bonus feature “Guts & Glory” was released, and it breaks down one of the most intense scenes from the show’s sixth season: Glenn and Nicholas at the dumpster.

By now, fans may be sick of this scene. However, the discussion by Michael Traynor and Greg Nicotero about the scene, some of the finer points, and even hidden Easter eggs is a lot of fun.
The real takeaway from this clip is that Nicholas’ actions were his own way of dealing with the zombie apocalypse. In fact, trying to understand what is going through the character’s mind is what is signaled by the jumble of sounds during the scene itself.
Nicotero himself acted as a walker in this scene, but his direction from the pile of the undead tearing apart Nicholas’ body was very interesting to hear. These are the kind of behind-the-scenes stories that you can’t get anywhere other than the special features on The Walking Dead’s amazing DVD collections.
