The Walking Dead likes to use practical effects whenever possible on the hit AMC show, but the use of CGI and VFX during season 6 helped to improve realism.

AMC has made The Walking Dead the most popular show on television. When thinking about the show, it’s not hard to imagine why. The zombie survival drama offers life and death situations every single week with some of the best effects to ever grace a tv screen.

But not all those effects are created from hand by the excellent special effects teams on the program. In fact, many of the bigger scale shots or scenes with exceptional detail are left in the hands of Stargate Studios.

Recently, Stargate Studios has been giving fans a look into the computer graphics and visual effects that went into some of the best scenes from the show’s history. Now, they have given everyone a peek into season 6’s digital work.

Here is the video titled CGI & VFX Breakdowns HD: “The Walking Dead Season 6” – By Stargate Studios from the YouTube account of The CG Bros:

Perhaps the most interesting part of the video is the first segment. Revealing all the work that went into the quarry scene from season 6 episode 1 of The Walking Dead is quite shocking when thinking about all the work that went into layering the rocks, walkers, clouds, trucks, and more.

Also shown in this video is the green screen work that went into some of these scenes, including the RV scene with Rick Grimes fighting off some members of The Wolves. But one of the most odd segments was using CGI to make the clothes of the woman in Carol’s arms during The Wolves invasion bloody seemed like an effect that could have been done using practical means, however it still looked quite good during the broadcast.
