Fear the Walking Dead S02E08 Preview: “Grotesque”
By Nir Regev
Fear the Walking Dead returns to your Sunday lineup with its group separated physically and divided mentally.
The line between alive and dead is rapidly blurring on Fear the Walking Dead. As Nick roves the wasteland with his merry go round band of walkers, his comfort with the dead is staggeringly awake and fully breathing.
He is the ‘daywalker’ of this story, the key go-between two universes. One of thought and panic, the other of unrestrained action and animal-like demands.

“This is the lawless world they’ve been waiting for”
Decisions in the group inner circle have produced a rift, a bruise that a simple band aid won’t soothe. Together they were strong and calculating. Everyone had a job that suited their skill set. Strength in numbers. A multitude of talents. Branched out they fall prey to the wild elements roaming the terrain. Not the walkers. They’re predictable in their nature, their behavior ingrained in instinct. Rather it’ll be other fellow friends of humanity. Ones that don’t have labels or sentences restricting their spread any longer.
Friends that have no one culling the herd and throwing them behind cells. No bribery to keep the peace or at least the illusion of keeping it to the public. Nope. These opportunity grabbing go-getters are about to embrace a world without rules or laws. Nick will soon adapt to a world where Madison’s philosophical ideals regarding the dead fades to the background as an exercise in elegant theory… While real physical outlaws waltz into all of their lives, ready to take rather than debate.
The End of a Power Couple?
Madison’s counterpart has left the building. His son’s unforgivable actions causing Travis to self-exile from the group. Banishment for the cause of saving his son from spiraling down a dark path. Whether the pair will ever reconcile is yet to be determined.

However, without Travis’ tendency to calm matters, Madison will likely act more recklessly. Especially with lifetime gambler Victor Strand by her ear, whispering risky suggestions of influence and no voice of reason to counteract. Her son Nick is somewhere out there on his own after all. Nick will always be Madison’s top priority to keep safe along with her daughter.
