Now that I know who Michael Rooker is from The Walking Dead, a story from my 20s about the movie Henry, Portrait of a Serial Killer takes on a whole new meaning.

This is a movie unreview. It’s more of a story. I’ve been having fun working with Joey Click from 1428 Elm, the horror site on the FanSided network sharing some ideas for Twitter and crossover ideas. I’m not a horror fan in general so I don’t know much about his content.

Michael Rooker shared a picture of himself with Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th that I tweeted to 1428 and I was reminded of Rooker in Henry; Portrait of a Serial Killer. I have a great story about Henry that I almost shared with Michael when I interviewed him at Wizard World last summer, but I was the last person to interview him, I was really nervous and I forgot.

When I was in my 20s, I carpooled to work from Chicago to Joliet as long reverse commute to my high school with another teacher. We had an hour each day to talk about things. We both loved movies, but my friend loved horror movies and I did not.

So often on the ride to work, he would just tell me all about the movies because he knew I wasn’t going to see them. Two of the movies that stick with me that impressed my friend are the dutch version of The Vanishing and Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer.

I remember quite a bit about the plot of The Vanishing from his description and it was over 20 years ago. I don’t remember many specifics that he told me about the movie Henry, but I remember something almost better than a review.

I remember that he told me about it on a Monday because he watched it on Friday night he was frightened for the entire weekend; it was the scariest movie he had ever seen. He said that every where he went he was trying to decide who might be a serial killer.

I may be remembering incorrectly; it’s been more than 20 years. The idea that there was no logic to his choices for victims was terrifying to my friend. I seem to remember that he said that Henry would choose random things. For example, the next person that makes eye contact or the next person that doesn’t make eye contact. The thought of it had my friend so paranoid, he said he was in Walgreen’s trying to figure out if he should or shouldn’t make eye contact with everyone in the store.

Now that I know that Henry is Merle. I mean Henry is Michael Rooker. I want to see it. But I’m still terrified from how terrified my friend was that I don’t know if I can do it.
