AMC’s ratings juggernaut The Walking Dead returns Sunday and fans will finally find out who lives and who dies by Negan and his beloved barbed wire bedecked baseball bat, Lucille.
The title of the Season 7 premiere is a throwback to Rick’s conversation with Dr. Edwin Jenner at the CDC in the first season. Rick says he’s grateful that Jenner allows his group to evacuate the building before it exploded. Jenner’s response was that “the day will come when you won’t be,” which, at the time, might have referred to the raging undead epidemic. However, fans have learned that the Walkers aren’t always the worst thing in the apocalypse. More often than not, it’s the other people you have to worry about, and Negan is the worst of the worst.
With all of the secrecy surrounding the seventh season premiere, there isn’t much by way of a summary of the episode. The theme of the season revolves around beginning again. AMC has provided this overview of Season 7:
“The first half of the Season 7 sees our group fractured, broken, bereaved, and picking up the pieces while living under the thumb of oppression. Negan will have successfully brought the survivors under his control, brutally convincing them to live under his rules with a deadly and horrific example of what happens if they don’t. Other characters are unaware of what’s happened, but have become separated from the group either by accident or by choice—they will learn that they can’t escape this new turn of their world either. This half season is about these characters starting over.”
