All were excited for the arrival of The Walking Dead season 7 premiere. But as the episode title aptly conveys, “The day will come when you won’t be.”

Why? Because now we have to move forward without characters so near and dear to our hearts.

No words can express the gravity of losses encountered in tonight’s episode. But perhaps some quotes from our viewing party shed some light.

"“I’m done.”“My heart is in my throat.”“There are no words.”“This needs to stop.”“This is messed up.”“He is broken.”"

Abraham

It was our golden soldier, Sgt. Abraham Ford, that fell victim to the most evil game of eenie meenie miney moe in television history.

In typical Abraham fashion, he stands tall until the bitter end and does not go quietly.

It is brutal and our hearts break over and over as we see past and present loves, Sasha and Rosita, and first mate, Eugene, sob in despair.

The group is in disbelief.  Daryl lashes out with a punch to Negan’s face.  This does not go over well. Viewers panic in fear of Negan’s reaction to the assault. Is Daryl next? No. Whew.

Wait.

Glenn

Glenn receives the repercussions of Daryl’s rage. Why Glenn? Did it have anything to do with the fact that he was actually the first to “step out of line” in Negan’s formation?

We don’t know, but we do not really care why.  We only care that he is gone.

Glenn was our quiet leader, always fighting for those he loved and for what he believed in.  He did not waste his last words on vengeance or anger. He used his last words as an expression of love for Maggie.  “I will find you”, he tells her.  Hearts are breaking all over the world.

Please stop, no more

We fear that Rick is indeed going to have to chop off Carl’s arm in order to ultimately save his son’s life and those of the other survivors.  We breathe a sigh of brief relief when Negan stops him just before severing Carl’s limb.

Carl does not lose his arm, but Rick clearly sacrifices his spirit. He is indeed broken.

Where do we go from here?  The world of The Walking Dead has irrevocably changed forever.

Final count 2

The final count is merely a number.  The losses of these 2 men will be felt for a very long time to come. I feel certain that these two will  most certainly continue to have a presence on-screen in The Walking Dead.  Their impact will not be short-lived.

Much like the vision of “what might have been” for our survivors as they enjoy a family dinner, Abraham and Glenn will be with us forever in our hearts and minds.

We love you, gentlemen.
